Beaverton, Oregon – CTL announced today that it has received the Peak Performer Community Service Award for dedication to improving the quality of life in the community. The award was presented at the System Builder Summit which was held September 24-27, 2000 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix, Arizona. Peak Performer Awards, which honor excellence and outstanding achievements specific to the system builder channel, were presented to 4 system builders. Recipients were chosen from among 220 system builders from the U.S., Canada and Latin America attending the System Builder Summit. The awards were based upon company submissions highlighting their achievements in one of 4 categories.
Computer Technology Link won the award based on a community service program that the company founded in an effort to introduce High School students to hands-on technology. The CTL Student Education Laboratory offers schools from throughout the Northwestern United States an opportunity to have their students work side-by-side with CTL Computer Production and Technical Support Staff integrating the latest in computer technology in a large scale production environment. This field experience can include working with enterprise level technology such as Servers with Quad Intel XEON processors, Redundant Hot Swappable components and Ultra High Capacity Storage.
Students of varying levels of computer experience learn hardware fundamentals, quality control principles, anti-static procedures, and diagnostic processes in a 4-6 hour Laboratory at CTL Headquarters in Beaverton, OR. By the end of the Lab, Students are able to assemble computer systems in varying configurations that pass all quality control checks. Students with advanced computer knowledge often have the option of spending the Lab in the Technical Support Department where they gain experience in telephone support and advanced troubleshooting techniques. The Lab is scheduled once each month for groups of from 4 to 25 students and includes a lunch for students and their teachers that is furnished by CTL.
We are extremely happy that the Student Education Lab program has received international recognition said Erik Stromquist, Executive Vice President. We developed the program to give students an opportunity to gain hands on experience with technology, and to give educators a teaching resource outside of the classroom. Our hope is that increased recognition of the program will result in more companies taking an active roll in partnering with schools in their communities.
