CTL Proud to Sponsor PDXLAN February 2015 by Giving Away 4K Monitors in Charity Raffle

By Jeremy Burnett, Director of Engineering

Here at CTL, we not only work hard, we play hard too. Many of us are part of the gaming community, myself included, and we’ve been proud to sponsor several PDXLAN events over the years. If you are not familiar with PDXLAN, this is a unique LAN party and one of the biggest in our region. PDXLAN brings together gamers from all over the U.S. and Canada. Up to 550 PC Gamers bring their computers to play video games over the four day event. In addition, participants enjoy fun contests, competitive tournaments and sponsor presentations.

What makes PDXLAN special is the sense of camaraderie that can be felt throughout the event and the fact that it’s about more than just competing and having fun. PDXLAN uses these events as a way to give back to the community. In the past, they have included a canned food drive and over the years they’ve raised over 95,000 pounds of food for homeless shelters. Over the years, we’ve partnered with PDXLAN by donating CTL merchandise that is raffled off with the proceeds benefitting various charities. This year, we provided two CTL X2800 4K monitors. One was given away by itself and the other one was part of a massive gaming rig prize.

As a result of the PDXLAN February 2015 raffle, $10,020 was raised for the Phil Scholz Memorial Foundation. Phil Scholz was an employee of NVIDIA who was killed when he was hit by a Caltrain while trying to pull another man out of harm’s way at the Santa Clara, CA station January 20, 2014. Phil was well-loved at work, at gaming conventions and on the field playing a host of recreational sports. His Memorial Foundation contributes to charities Phil held dear including The American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter, Valley Humane Society of Pleasanton, CA and Baseball Buddies of San Jose, CA. In addition the Philip Scholz Memorial Foundation is now focused on fundraising for the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD), specifically to support trail building in the Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park.

CTL proudly joined several other major sponsors to contribute the components for an impressive gaming rig for the raffle, which included:
